Adopt-a-Spot Program Overview

The NELCDC kicked off Adopt-a-Spot for the Jackson-Mahon and Parkway Cherry-Point Neighborhoods on January 10, 2017.  Over 100 community members attended the neighborhood revitalization effort held at the Texas Tech Innovation Hub.  Following the kick-off, NELCDC staff members conducted a 10-point housing assessment for all single-family homes in both neighborhoods.

 

Parkway Cherry-Point Neighborhood:

2,059 homes were assessed

1,044 homes (51%) received a score of 24 or below (out of 30) indicating the home is in need of repair

Of the 1,044 home, 588 were owner-occupied

588 owner-occupied households received the first program survey (response deadline Nov. 17, 2017)

148 homeowners provided a survey response by the Nov. 17 deadline

Of the 148 homeowners, 47 households met the criteria and had until January 18 to provide homeowner authorizations and certifications before the home could be inspected by a hired inspector.

Of the 47 homes, 34 provided response (by the January 18 deadline) and are eligible for adoption.

Jackson-Mahon Neighborhood :

662 homes were assessed

153 homes (23%) received a score of 24 or below (out of 30) indicating the home is in need of repair

Of the 153 homes, 95 were owner-occupied

95 owner-occupied households received the first program survey (response deadline Nov. 17, 2017)

23 homeowners provided a survey response by the Nov. 17 deadline

Of the 23 homeowners, 4 households met the criteria and had until January 18 to provide homeowner authorizations and certifications before the home could be inspected by a hired inspector.

4 homes will be eligible for adoption.
